Chaos Marine Chosen Finished and a happy new year!

Finally found time to get these guys posted up on here.

I actually finished these off just before Christmas and sent them off with the Custodes to Sandy in Newzealand.

My honest opinion on these models is they look good in plastic but the detail is so poorly molded in some parts it's been a real challenge to "paint" in the detail.

I even resorted to black lining some areas to get a good separation of colours.
What's next well, I believe it's some Inquisition models which are a mix of Judge Dredd and Infinity.
On a personal side I'm thrilled the new Tyranids codex has landed and I'm eager to revisit my old models with a new paint scheme.

The middle colours are a strong favorite at the moment, il be trying a very fast airbrush, dry brush and wash technique to get them painted at speed.

Stay tuned and a happy new year!

Honsou finished and Chaos Chosen started.

Apologies for the grainyness of the picture I forgot to take final pics of the finished figure again whoops, anyway's by all accounts my friend absolutely loved this as a present from his brother so mission accomplished for me at least!

Next on the table are some Chaos Chosen, they are to be painted in Tzeentch colours, and to that end I have picked Blue, Purple,White and gold as my colours.

This chap was the first guy to be completed to get a feel for the scheme, to be honest they look amazing in plastic but are very hard to get looking nice.
This is due to the detail being very subtle and smooth across the whole figure.
I had to use black lining on most of the armour to make it "pop" a technique I've not used since I was teenager!!!

This is the current progress f the squad, I am still refining how I paint even after all these years and the lesson I learnt from these is to find a base colour that goes on easy.......not in 3 coats grrrrrr.
Stay tuned for more and possibly a second author......

Honsou Of the Iron Warriors

I have been asked by a good friend to create Honsou from the Black Library series of books.

He is for his brothers birthday, so it's gotta be a nice figure.
Here's where I started, with legs from the new tactical boxed set, a Terminator chest stuck to a Power Armour back and some power cables, the head is a Blood Angels one with the flowing locks cut off.
The next stages involved sculpting the belt and holster and tidy up.
A quick check once I'd started the arms, the Necron arm is an Ork one with the hand turned 90* the axe is from one of the Chosen from the Dark Vengeance boxset.
End result is this, pretty close to the artwork as close as I can get myself.
He is all primered up and ready for paint over the next few days.

Custodes complete

Morning bloggers,
I,ve managed to get the Custodes finished off with a few alterations to suit the customers requests.
First off was an airbrush with Gehenna's gold over Army Painter black base primer.

Next Khorne red was used on the crests and robes and Ulthuan grey on the stone base with Stirland Mud texture around the edges.

Next the Shields were filled in with Chaos black (Abaddon black is uselessly thin)

Then I washed the whole figure and base with Agrax earth shade mised witha drop of Ardcoat to extend the drying time and prevent bad tide marks.
The red was higlighted up through Evilsuns Scarlet to Kindleflame and the Gold overbrushed with Gehenna's Gold and Auric armour with a small final highlight of Runefang steel.

The power weapons were based with a mix of Temple Guard blue and Ulthuan grey, then shaded with the same mix with a little more TGB finally with black.
Then highlighted up with white to finish.(it's my first attempt at this so pretty chuffed)

looking good as a squad!

Final choice was to add some more black on the Pauldrons and front armour to break up the gold a bit.
Overall these were a joy to paint the Scibor kits seem nice to work with and paint.
Stay tuned for some showcase picture, I am in the progress of organising some themed backdrops to shoot Showcase pictures against.

Till next time.

Better late than never eh!

Well doesn't time fly when your having fun (revamping the bathroom) Not a huge amount to report but a few projects have ticked along in the back ground firstly I finished off the Necromunda gang but stupidly forgot to get a final picture of them so this is the last one I took.
The only thing I needed to do was finish the bases off with weathering powders.
After them I did a small piece for a chap at my work place, this was a small pewter model car I cleaned up and painted for him.

The next unit on the commission agenda is a unit of Custodes these figures are from Scibor miniatures
I have built them with pole axe's from the Grey Knight Terminator boxed set with Blood Angels Angelus Boltguns fitted on top to represent the Custodes weapons.

This chap is armed with a Psycannon so the customer can use the Unit as Grey Knights.

A Scale comparison shot with Marines and Frankenstein is photobombing lol.
This is the group ready for primer and paint, I had to fill in a few haps with GreenStuff to get the arms to match, were off on a little holiday with the mini Munky who is now 8 months old and terrorizing the household!

See you soon followers.

Another month rolls by..

Welcome back to another edition of Munkystyle, not a great deal to report but a pretty varied experience this month.
Firstly I found some old gaming stuff buried in my dads loft, Dungeon Quest and some realm of chaos books being the highlight.
Following that vein of old skool gaming my group has revamped our interest in Warhammer Quest, so much so I actually bought a model for myself!!! An Empire Battle wizard set, and so Archibald Zane was conceived.
I really enjoyed using the airbrush to get a smooth transition from purple to orange, then went in with the brush for the yellow highlights. (Better pics to follow soon)
The commission grinds ever onwards and is nearing completion, I've always struggled with basing and seeing the bases from Anvil Industries are so detailed I thought I'd try my hand at weathering powders.
This is the result of various experiments with Modelmates Liquid rust and Forge World weathering powders.

Il leave you with a sneak peek of what's next on the desk.....

Airbrushing.

At long last my airbrush compressor has arrived and isn't it lovely!
It's been a long time coming to be honest, and I was like a little kid a Christmas opening it.

I had a quick go last night and was very impressed with it.
I wasn't much louder than a microwave or kettle when running and due to its "smart technology" it only runs once the trigger on the airbrush is pressed.

I used it to base coat Adams Van Saar gang in about 10 mins, I've subsiquently started brushing in the other base colours for the bases and metal areas.

The following model is where I'm heading with the colours but the base and face are not finished yet.

One thing that surprised me was how much crap was stuck in the airbrush when I started running cleaner through it.
I think some cleaning brushes are in order to get to the fiddly bits.

Stay tuned for more as I get back in the saddle properly and start my hobby mojo back up again.

I'm back, from outer space.......

Well not really, but it feels like it's taken light years to get this point.
What is the point of this post you say, well here it is.

The Man Cave is complete!

Such a small sentence but loaded with meaning!

Such as, I can start painting again, building again and I can push my skills to new places.
All in the comfort of a dedicated space for my hobby.
Awesome!
First on the "new" desk are Adams Van Saar gang all 19 of em, phew.
Stay tuned for those in the following weeks, as well as HD photos of the completed models on my new camera setup.
Here's some pics if the Man cave and its progress.  Till later then.

See you soon.
