Hiveguard complete and the first painted model on the blog!!

Well here it is people the first fully painted model on the blog!

Sandy the customer sent me some pictures of the Hive fleet Leviathan to copy the scheme from, I am really pleased with how its come out.
Personally I think the change from white to bone coloured "skin" helps to tie the colours together better.
This has been the first model I have painted for ages and it's been a blast, just got another two to do now I have the colours finalised.

For those of you interested the colours used are as follows:

SKIN - 1/1 Dheneb Stone/Bleached Bone washed with a 3/2 Gryphonne Sepia/Devlan Mud (aka Nid wash!)

GUN - 1/1 Mechrite Red/Scab Red washed with Nid wash and highlighted Blood Red.

CARAPACE - 1/1 Hormagaunt Purple/Chaos Black feathered with Liche Purple, 1/1Liche Purple/Fortress Grey, Fortress Grey.

Baal Red wash was used to pick out the ribbed areas and his mouth.

I hope you like it and I'd love to hear your comments!

  2. Wow, that looks good. nice use of the tyre to support the poor pose.

  3. I think its a shame that GW posed then looking down, otherwise a real nice model to paint.

  4. Those striations look great. I agree with Adam in that the subtle change in pose caused by the tire is a smooth addition. On the gun, is that an eye I see?

  7. The technique is mentioned in the above post using the old style paints my friend.
Unfortunately ive just moved house and have no hobby stuff for the next few months so I can't comment on what colours to choose.

However Ron over at fromthewarp has posted some excellent topics on the new washes, try there for some tips.

  8. no thank you i read the techniques used but thought maybe there was some additional stuff. Like with the skin did you simply finish with the wash or did you do some layers with the basecoat and lighter colours?

Oh and great tutorial on the carapace, just finished my first and it looks great

  9. Thanks I'm glad it helped.
As for the skin it is literally that simple.
One tip I have now learnt from the FW masterclass is to add a drop of gloss varnish to the wash.
This stops it drying out so fast and prevents "tide" marks as its pooling in the recesses on the model.
You still have to be fast brushing it on.

I would test out the new washes on some spare arms or Carnifex back plates.
